If you're willing to make the drive about an hour north to Fayetteville, Tennessee, there's a charming Christmas tradition that's been going strong for almost 50 years. The Host of Christmas Past brings together local businesses, nonprofits, and families for a seasonal kick-off overflowing with Christmas cheer, lights, and traditions.
Friday, November 14
- Opening Ceremony, Tree Lighting, and Christmas Carols at the Eastside Courthouse Lawn (5 p.m.)
- Mrs. Claus's Reindeer Training Camp and storytime (5 and 6 p.m.)
- "Silver Belles" holiday play at Carriage House Players theater (7 p.m., ticketed)
Saturday, November 15
- 5K Reindeer Run (8 a.m.)
- Music and performances on the square (9 a.m. onward)
- Candy Cane Hunts on the courthouse lawn for children (10 a.m. & 2 p.m.)
- Santa's Reindeer and Photos with Santa (10 a.m.–2 p.m., $30 for a digital image)
- Food for the Soul lunch at St. Paul AME Church ($15/ticket)
- Cocoa, Crafts, and Ornament Painting, plus cookie decorating workshops
- Indoor/outdoor Festive Craft Fair and Small Business Expo at local schools and venues
- Frozen Hot Chocolate station, face painting, art activities
