2026 Snake Run & Ride Skateboard Challenge

Young skaters in Huntsville will have their moment to shine at the Snake Run & Ride Skateboard Challenge, a free competition where kids ages 5-14 can show off their skills alongside riders from across the country. Hosted by Huntsville Parks & Recreation and The Skatepark Project, this event welcomes skateboarders of all abilities — whether your child is just learning to drop in or already mastering kickflips. The relaxed, encouraging atmosphere makes it ideal for young riders looking to challenge themselves and connect with the local skating community. The challenge takes place Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Get-A-Way Skatepark inside John Hunt Park on McAllister Drive Southwest. There's no cost to participate or spectate, making it an accessible morning out for families who want to support Huntsville's youth skate scene. The park's snake run feature — a flowing, bowl-style course — provides a dynamic terrain that rewards both technical tricks and smooth, creative lines. Plan to arrive early if your child wants to compete, and bring sunscreen, water, and a helmet (required for all riders). Parents of younger or less experienced skaters shouldn't hesitate to come — events like this often include beginner-friendly heats and plenty of encouragement from older riders and coaches. It's a chance to see skateboarding's welcoming side and maybe inspire your young rider to keep pushing their boundaries.
