Boom Proof Your Pet: A Community Pet Safety Event
As fireworks season approaches, Huntsville Animal Services is offering a practical solution for families whose pets panic at loud booms and flashes. "Boom Proof Your Pet" helps dog and cat owners prepare for July Fourth festivities by providing essential safety services and supplies that can prevent pets from becoming frightened, escaping, and ending up in the shelter system. This free community event gives local families the chance to update their pet safety toolkit while connecting with veterinary professionals and fellow animal lovers. The event takes place Sunday, June 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Jaycee Building in John Hunt Park. Registration is required in advance, and here's an important detail: all attendees must have their pets microchipped at the event (or show proof of existing microchipping) to access other services. Once registered, families can take advantage of onsite DAPP and rabies vaccinations from local vets, pick up collars, leashes, and personalized ID tags, and receive pet food and toys. Huntsville residents can also obtain spay/neuter vouchers. Even if your pet is already microchipped, the event offers valuable supplies and health services that make registration worthwhile. This proactive approach is especially helpful for families with pets who are new to your household or those who have never experienced fireworks before. Bring your pets ready to spend a bit of time moving through stations, and you'll leave with peace of mind knowing your four-legged family members are better protected during the noisiest celebrations of summer.
