National Cleanup Day Event
Huntsville families can make a tangible difference in their community this September by joining a special cleanup event at Holmes Park and nearby Hillendale Park in honor of National Cleanup Day. This volunteer opportunity welcomes everyone—from toddlers picking up their first piece of litter to teens earning service hours to parents modeling community stewardship. No previous experience is necessary, and the event provides a meaningful way for families to work together toward the shared goal of a cleaner, greener Huntsville. The cleanup takes place Saturday, September 19 from 9am to 11am, with participants meeting at Holmes Park located at 2811 Holmes Avenue. All necessary supplies will be provided on-site, including gloves, litter grabbers, trash bags, safety vests, and water, so families can simply show up ready to help. The two-hour time frame makes this an easy morning activity that still leaves plenty of weekend ahead for other plans. For families with younger children, this event offers a gentle introduction to environmental volunteerism in a supportive group setting. Kids can see immediate results from their efforts, which helps build pride and a sense of connection to their neighborhood. Dress everyone in comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on grass and pavement. For more information or questions about the cleanup, contact the organizers at (256) 532-5326.
