Nature Academy · Garden Lab
Young botanists can get their hands dirty exploring the fascinating world of plant science at this Garden Lab session. Part of the Huntsville Botanical Garden's Nature Academy series, this program introduces kids ages 6-12 to innovative growing methods that go beyond traditional gardening. Participants will work with fragrant herbs, examine hydroponic systems up close, and discover how plants can thrive in soil-free environments. It's a perfect blend of sensory exploration and scientific thinking that shows how modern agriculture is solving real-world challenges. The program takes place at the Huntsville Botanical Garden on Bob Wallace Avenue, with two session times available across November 17-18, 2026. Kids are divided into age-appropriate groups — 6-8 year olds and 9-12 year olds — ensuring activities match developmental stages and keep everyone engaged. Registration is required and can be completed online through the Garden's website. Parents with questions about the program or registration can reach the education team directly at education@hsvbg.org. This hands-on experience works well for curious kids who love being outside and asking "how things grow." Since participants will be working with plants and possibly getting a bit messy during their experiments, comfortable clothing that can handle a little dirt is a smart choice. The program's focus on sustainable food production also opens up great conversations at home about where our food comes from and how science helps feed communities.
