Weekday Series: Foraged Basketry & Kudzu Spheres

Turn the South's most notorious invader into a work of art at this unique basketry workshop. Led by fiber artist Beth Phillips — who's spent nearly two decades mastering kudzu crafts — participants will learn to weave invasive kudzu vines into beautiful hollow spheres. These finished pieces work as striking botanical displays, home accents, or even globe-style light fixtures, proving that resourcefulness and creativity can transform a regional nuisance into something surprisingly elegant. The workshop meets Thursday evening, September 17th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at Burritt on the Mountain, and costs $60 per person. All materials and supplies are provided, so simply show up ready to work with your hands. Phillips will teach techniques for shaping and weaving both whole and split vines, guiding beginners through the process from start to finish. Registration is required by September 10th at 5:00 pm, and spots are limited — the class needs a minimum number of students to run.
