Free Ukulele Classes with Kirk Jones
Kirk Jones invites families to discover the simple pleasure of strumming a ukulele together in this welcoming beginner class at Lowe Mill. If you've ever been charmed by the ukulele's bright, cheerful sound and thought about learning to play, this is your chance to try it out with no pressure and no cost. Jones focuses on building confidence through essential chords and easy songs that beginners can actually play, making it an ideal introduction for anyone ages 10 and up who's curious about making music. Parents and kids can learn side by side, which often makes the experience even more fun and memorable. The class takes place at the Huntsville Traditional Music Association's Studio 1038 inside Lowe Mill on September 12, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM. Best of all, it's completely free, and you don't need to bring your own instrument—ukuleles will be provided for everyone to use during the session. This removes the biggest barrier for families who want to test the waters before committing to buying an instrument. The class works well for kids around 10 and older who can comfortably hold and strum a small instrument, though younger siblings who are eager and able to focus are often welcome to give it a try. Even if no one in your family continues with the ukulele afterward, you'll leave with a new skill, a few songs under your belt, and a sweet memory of learning something together.
