Hike at Hickory Cove Nature Preserve
Hickory Cove Nature Preserve offers families a chance to explore one of Huntsville's hillside gems through a guided hike along the Legacy Loop trail. This moderate two-hour trek covers about two miles and winds through much of the preserve, showcasing the natural beauty tucked into this corner of the city. The pace and terrain make it accessible for families with elementary-aged children and up who have some hiking experience, though younger kids who are comfortable on trails may enjoy it as well. The hike begins Saturday, November 7th at 9:00 AM from the Trailhead Greenway Parking lot at 1500 Trailhead Main Street. To get there from Huntsville, head east on Highway 72, then turn right at the intersection with Moores Mill Road into the Trailhead community. Another right onto Trailhead Main Street leads you straight to the parking area at the end of the street. Registration is required, and organizers will email participants if weather or trail conditions force a cancellation. Plan for a couple of hours outdoors and bring water, snacks, and sturdy shoes for everyone. The moderate rating suggests some elevation changes and uneven terrain, so families should consider their children's stamina and trail experience before signing up. This is a nice introduction to Huntsville's preserved natural spaces without committing to an all-day adventure.
