Tree Hugger Book Club Meeting
The Tree Hugger Book Club brings together families who love both reading and the outdoors for a thoughtful discussion in a beautiful natural setting. This month, the group will gather at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve to talk about "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens, a compelling coming-of-age story that follows a young girl named Kya growing up alone in a North Carolina swamp. The novel's themes of nature and animal behavior make it a perfect fit for this nature-focused book club, and the preserve setting adds an extra layer of connection to the story's wild, marshy backdrop. The meeting takes place Sunday, November 15 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve on Highway 72 East. The Land Trust will provide discussion questions to help guide the conversation, and everyone is welcome regardless of whether you've attended before. There's no cost to participate, and families are encouraged to bring snacks to share. After the discussion wraps up, those interested can join an optional hike through the preserve's trails, making it easy to extend the afternoon into a full nature outing. If you haven't read the book yet, you can find it at Snail on the Wall, Huntsville's local independent bookstore, or check it out from the library in various formats including audiobook and e-book. Used copies are often available at thrift stores or through the Friends of the Library. This event welcomes readers of all ages, making it a nice opportunity for teens and adults to discuss literature together while younger children can enjoy the preserve's natural beauty.
