Yoga by the River
Start your Saturday morning with a peaceful stretch alongside the Flint River at Hays Nature Preserve. Green Team hosts free outdoor yoga sessions every Saturday in May and June, welcoming families and yogis of all experience levels to their mats for an hour of movement and mindfulness. The natural setting adds something special to the practice — there's nothing quite like holding tree pose while actually surrounded by trees, with the sound of flowing water in the background. Classes run from 8 to 9 a.m., which means you'll finish with plenty of day left for other adventures (though note there won't be sessions on May 23 or June 20). Bring your own yoga mat, water bottle, and towel, and follow the signs once you arrive at the preserve to find the group. The early start time keeps things cool during those warming spring and summer months, making it comfortable for parents practicing alongside kids. This works beautifully for families with children old enough to follow along with basic poses — typically ages 6 and up do well with the format, though younger siblings are welcome to join in their own way. If you have questions about what to expect, you can reach out to katheleen.theriault@huntsvilleal.gov before your first visit. The combination of free admission, beautiful surroundings, and all-levels instruction makes this an accessible way to introduce your family to yoga or deepen an existing practice together.
