Fat Cat Summer Birdhouse Gourd Class
If your family appreciates both backyard birds and the delightfully ridiculous nature of cats, this creative workshop hits the sweet spot. Artist Cassie Wren Gibbs welcomes participants to transform handcrafted gourds into whimsical fat cat birdhouse sculptures — think chunky, fluffy felines lounging in all their round glory. Whether your household cat is dramatically aloof, perpetually grumpy, or prone to 3am zoomies, this class celebrates those gloriously chubby personalities while creating functional garden art that will actually house feathered visitors. The class meets at Studio 115 inside Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment on Saturday, June 27th at 10:00am, and costs $75 per participant. Each guest receives their own ready-to-paint gourd birdhouse along with all painting supplies, plus homemade sweet treats and sweet tea to enjoy while working. No art experience is necessary — Cassie provides hands-on guidance throughout the session. With only six seats available, the intimate setting means plenty of personal attention for younger artists who might need help with detail work or color mixing. This workshop suits creative kids ages 5-14 who can sit for a couple of hours and follow painting instructions, though the silly subject matter keeps it playful rather than formal. Parents might want to bring a smock or wear painting clothes, and expect to carry home a damp painted gourd that will need a day or two to dry completely before hanging outdoors.
