Make Your Own Ceramic Christmas Tree!
If you've ever admired those glowing ceramic Christmas trees that grace mantels and tables during the holidays, here's your chance to create one from scratch. At Turtle Pottery in Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, families can spend a Thursday morning crafting their own vintage-inspired ceramic tree—the kind that becomes a treasured keepsake displayed year after year. Working with clay, you'll shape the iconic cone form, add those signature colorful bulb lights, and personalize details to make it uniquely yours. It's a wonderful way to start a new family tradition or recreate a nostalgic piece from your own childhood memories. The workshop takes place November 12 at 11:00 AM at Studio 1066 inside Lowe Mill. The $80 fee covers all materials, glazing, and expert guidance from Calvin Hubbard at Turtle Pottery. While the class is designed with kids ages 5-14 in mind, the family-friendly format welcomes adults too—parents can help younger children with the detailed work or create their own tree alongside their kids. You'll need to call ahead to reserve your spot at (585) 362-6157, as space is limited. Keep in mind that ceramic projects require kiln firing, so you won't take your tree home the same day. Plan to return to Lowe Mill for pickup once your creation has been glazed and fired. This makes a perfect November activity that builds anticipation for the December decorating season—when your handmade centerpiece will finally light up your holiday display.
