Forest Friends at Chapman Mountain

Forest Friends at Chapman Mountain offers preschool-aged children a gentle introduction to the natural world through stories, songs, and hands-on exploration. Led by educator Angie McCollum, these playful sessions help kids ages 3 to 5 develop a sense of wonder and connection to the forest habitat around them. While the activities are tailored for older toddlers and preschoolers, younger siblings are welcome to tag along, making this a relaxed outing for families with multiple little ones. The program takes place on September 21 at 10:00 AM at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve on U.S. Highway 72 East in Huntsville. Admission is free, though the Land Trust welcomes memberships to support their work. Space is limited and reservations are required — register using one parent's information and reserve just one spot per family, not per child. If the event fills up, keep checking back, as the Land Trust reopens registration if spots become available. Plan to dress your preschooler in closed-toe shoes and long pants, and bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. The preserve is located just past Chapman Mountain on Highway 72 — look for the paved entrance after the silver guardrail ends. After the program, families are welcome to stay and enjoy a picnic from home. If weather or trail conditions force a cancellation, registered families will receive an email notification.
