Little Forest Friends
Little Forest Friends offers young toddlers their first gentle introduction to nature through story, song, and art right on the trails at Blevins Gap Nature Preserve. Designed specifically for children ages 18 months to 3 years, these playful outdoor sessions help little ones build a friendly, curious connection to the forest around them. Led by naturalist Elizabeth Moats, families will discover the plants and animals that call this beautiful woodland habitat home while fostering a sense of wonder that can grow into a lifelong love of the outdoors. The program meets at 10:00 AM on September 14, 2026, at the Fanning Trailhead on Cecil Ashburn Drive. The event is free, though the Land Trust welcomes memberships to support their conservation work. Registration is required and space is limited, so families should reserve one spot per household rather than per child. While the activities are tailored for toddlers, older siblings are welcome to join in the fun. After the guided exploration, families are invited to stay and enjoy a picnic lunch they've brought from home. Plan to dress little ones in closed-toe shoes and long pants for trail comfort. Bug spray, sunscreen, and water bottles are also recommended since you'll be spending the morning outdoors. An accompanying adult is required for all participants, making this a wonderful opportunity for parents, grandparents, or caregivers to share in their child's nature discoveries. Check your email before heading out, as weather or trail conditions may occasionally require cancellations.
