Weekday Series: Sourdough Workshop
If you've been curious about the magic of sourdough baking, this hands-on workshop at Burritt on the Mountain offers the perfect introduction. Led by instructors from Lemon & Lavender, a Madison-based store focused on sustainable living, this beginner-friendly class walks participants through the entire process of creating artisan bread at home. The real treasure? You'll take home not just a loaf ready to bake the next day, but also a starter culture that's over 100 years old—your own sourdough "Mother" to keep the baking tradition alive in your kitchen. The workshop takes place Tuesday evening, September 15th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, giving working parents a manageable weeknight learning experience. The $75 fee covers all supplies except a large mixing bowl and apron, which you'll need to bring from home. You'll also receive a tea towel and enjoy refreshments during the session. Registration closes September 8th at 5pm, and spaces are limited, so early sign-up is recommended. While the event is technically open to all ages, participants must be 19 or older to register independently. This makes it ideal for adults hoping to expand their kitchen skills or older teens attending with a parent. Families with younger children might consider this an adults' night out while the kids stay home—then everyone can enjoy the freshly baked results together the following day. Just note that a 25% non-refundable deposit applies, and cancellations less than 30 days before the class won't receive refunds.
