Drop In & CREATE: Pinch Pot Pumpkins
Fall meets creativity in this hands-on pottery workshop where families can craft their own pinch pot pumpkins to take home. Using air dry clay, kids will learn the traditional pinch pot technique — a timeless method where you shape clay by pinching and pulling it with your fingers. It's a perfect introduction to working with clay for young artists, and the seasonal twist makes these little pumpkin trinkets especially fun to display at home. The relaxed drop-in format means families can arrive anytime during the two-hour window and work at their own pace. This free event takes place Saturday, October 24th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Stender Family Interactive Education Galleries ART LAB at the Huntsville Museum of Art. There's no admission fee for parents, guardians, or children, making it an accessible creative outing for families. While the activity is designed with kids ages 4-14 in mind, the museum welcomes the entire family to participate together. Younger children may need help with the pinching and shaping techniques, so plan to work alongside them. Since the clay is air dry rather than kiln-fired, your finished pumpkins will be ready to take home the same day — just allow a bit of drying time. This monthly drop-in series offers a low-pressure way to explore art-making together without worrying about reservations or strict start times.
